Socso announced that beginning Tuesday, all workers under service contracts or apprenticeships must be registered and contributing to Socso, with a contribution ceiling based on a monthly salary of RM6,000. This requirement follows recent amendments to the Employee Social Security Act 1969 and the Employment Insurance System Act 2017.
In February, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim announced that the ministry would propose amendments to the two Acts to increase the Socso insured salary ceiling for workers from RM5,000 to RM6,000. Parliament approved these amendments in July.
