SOCSO Contribution in Malaysia
SOCSO is actually a short for company name Social Security Organization (SOCSO), was established as per one of the Malaysia government statutory body under the category of Ministry of Human Resource to administer.
The funding as per deduction in our salary, known as Employee Social Security, which is an Act 1969 by providing Malaysian employee social security and safety during their work. These fund are collected by SOSCO which is powered by Social Security Organization also as known as PERKESO.
All you need to know about SOCSO Contribution
SOCSO Contribution is a payment to Social Security Organization, made by both employees and employers. SOCSO Contribution shall be made for each month of salary payment as a deduction towards salary net pay.
The percentage of SOCSO Contribution shall between 3% to 5% of the employee salary vary accordingly to the employee salary amount.
Employees with a salary more than RM3,000 per month are choose able to pay a SOCSO contribution.

SOCSO Contribution for all employees
All employees shall make their SOCSO contribution from the first month when they get their monthly salary pay.
Moreover, all employees are eligible for SOCSO contribution under the employment in private sector and contractual / temporary staff of Federal / State Government as well as Federal / State Statutory Bodies.
Conditions for employees that are exempted (not need to make SOCSO contribution) from SOCSO contribution are follows:
- Permanent employees from Federal and State Government
- Domestic servants
- Self-employed (not including taxi drivers, it belongs to individuals who runs Grab, bus drivers etc)
- Spouses of a sole proprietor or a partnership owner
What is the function of SOCSO why should I made SOCSO Contribution?
The purpose of SOCSO (their vision and mission) is to provide social security fund towards employee in the private sector in case of working injuries, emergencies, occupational sickness and death.
Update Notice on Contribution Amount for Act 4 and Act 800 in accordance with the Increment of the Wage Ceiling Limit
Effective 1st September 2022, PERKESO will enforce a new wage ceiling for contributions from RM4,000 to RM5,000 per month. The contribution amount that apply to employees with salaries exceeding RM4,000 per month is stated in the Third Schedule, Act 4 and the Second Schedule, Act 800. For employees with salaries exceeding RM5,000 per month, the contribution amount is subject to the wage ceiling of RM5,000. Accordingly, the contribution payment for the month of September 2022 and the subsequent months shall be made by the employer according to the new wage ceiling.

SOCSO Contribution are varying among employees accordingly to the amount of their personal salary income and wages. The following income shall be made as percentage to SOCSO contribution as follows (Employees; Social Security Act 1969 Act 4):

First Category (is only applicable to employees who ages are below 60)
- Employer contribute 1.75% of the employee’s total salary
- Employee contribute 0.5% of their monthly total salary
- Total of amount (contribute from employer and employee) will go towards SOCSO fund

How to apply for SOCSO claims?
If you or your family required to apply for a SOCSO claim, your employer’s HR will help you for providing relevant documentation.
If you are applying for SOCSO medical benefits for the first time, you need to prepare the following document for submission:
Accident report – Form 21 OR occupational disease report –Form PKS 68 or PKS69
Claims form – Form 10
Employer’s identification letter
Work attendance summary
Medical leave certificate
A photocopy of your employee identity card
A police report and a sketch map of your trip (for accidents that happened while travelling to or from the workplace)
Remember that treatments or medical help are free of charge at SOCSO panel clinics and government hospitals and clinics when a claim is approved.
If you are treated at a non-SOCSO facility, you need to prepare the following additional document for submission:
Reimbursement Travel Claims Form – Form PKS (P) 24
Reimbursement Payment Claim Report (general) – Form PKS (P) 26
Original copy of the receipt of treatment
Photocopy of the appointment card
Photocopy of the medical report, if applicable
Do note that SOCSO will determine how much will be reimbursed if you are treated at a non-SOCSO facility
